Vice President - Special Interest Groups


REPORTS TO: Chapter President

TERM: One year.

PURPOSE: To oversee activities of all chapter Special Interest Groups (SIGS), coordinating activities with other chapter events and providing resources for effective development of each.

SUPERVISES: Chairperson for each of the chapter's current functioning Special Interest Groups.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Attend and participate in all monthly Board meetings and chapter programs. Participate in other chapter events, committee meetings and conferences as available.
  2. Recruit and train incoming Special Interest Group chairpersons.
  3. Represent chapter professionally and ethically in all business functions/organizational activities.
  4. Ensure (through SIG leaders) each special interest group program calendar is published in monthly e-newsletter (Learning Curve) and on chapter website.
  5. Recruit and train incoming VP of Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
  6. Assist in the assessment and leadership development of newly proposed SIGs as appropriate.
  7. Provide guidance and support to SIGs in planning, coordinating, and conducting group activities and member services that are in line with the chapter's overall strategic plan. This responsibility includes providing advice and support for SIGs in achieving and maintaining financial solvency.
  8. Design annual budget for position and audit income/expenses monthly to ensure chapter's sound financial status.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Directly involved in the Training and Development field with broad knowledge of local resources
  2. National member of ASTD and a member in good standing of the Silicon Valley Chapter
  3. Time available to attend board meetings and other functions as required by the position
  4. Adept in verbal communication, diplomacy, personal interaction and problem-solving
  5. Experience in networking and leading multi location teams
  6. Ability to build, motivate and lead a team of volunteers.
  7. Ability to delegate tasks and monitor follow-through
  8. Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate activities required by the position.

REALISTIC ESTIMATE OF TIME THIS FUNCTION WILL TAKE EACH MONTH:

  1. Attending Board Meetings: 2 hours plus travel time
  2. Attending SIG Committee meetings: 1-2 hours plus travel time
  3. Attending monthly chapter meetings: 3 hours plus travel time
  4. Communicating with SIG leaders about routine issues: 2-4 hours
  5. Attending each SIG as availability allows: 2 hours plus travel time
