Vice President - Marketing & Publicity


REPORTS TO: Chapter President

TERM: One year.

PURPOSE: To increase ASTD-SV's presence and purpose to the public.

SUPERVISES: Marketing & Publicity Committee

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Attend and participate in all monthly Board meetings and chapter programs. Participate in other chapter events, committee meetings and conferences as available.
  2. Represent chapter professionally and ethically in all business functions/organizational activities.
  3. Support with the VP of Programs/Professional Development and SIGS on externally advertising monthly programs and workshops.
  4. Collaborate with the VP of Member Communications and the VP of Technology to ensure a clear and consistent marketing approach. (Review the look and feel of communication including the website and newsletter.)
  5. Collaborate with WayneFlete on their marketing support by supplying content as needed, reviewing materials, and ensuring a clear and consistent marketing approach.
  6. Solicit web advertising and corporate sponsorships as well as assemble a committee to support this effort.
  7. Work with the local media to increase the presence of ASTD-SV.
  8. Design annual budget for Marketing function; audit income/expenses monthly to ensure chapter's sound financial status.
  9. Recruit and train volunteers to support the marketing function.
  10. Recruit and train incoming V.P of Marketing & Publicity

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Member of ASTD for over one year and preferably some exposure directly to ASTD-SV.
  2. Directly involved in the Training and Development field and prior experience in marketing, publicity, or the communications field.
  3. National member of ASTD and a member in good standing of the Silicon Valley Chapter.
  4. Adept in verbal communication, diplomacy, personal interaction, and problem-solving.
  5. Excellent phone skills and ability to converse with the media.
  6. Ability to build, motivate and lead a team of volunteers.
  7. Ability to delegate tasks and monitor follow-through.

REALISTIC ESTIMATE OF TIME THIS FUNCTION WILL TAKE EACH MONTH:

  1. Attending Board Meetings: 2 hours plus travel time
  2. Attending Marketing & Publicity Committee meetings: 2 hours plus travel time
  3. Attending monthly chapter meetings: 3 hours plus travel time
  4. Communicating with individuals responsible for web site, marketing, administrative office and committee members about routine issues: 5 hours
