Vice President - Member Communications


Reports To
Chapter President


Term
One year
Purpose
To communicate chapter activities to members and the community at large. To promote recognition of and respect for the chapter and its membership within the Bay Area business community.
Supervises
Communications and Marketing committee members and volunteers.
Responsibilities

Attend and participate in all monthly Board meetings and chapter meetings. Participate in other chapter events, committee meetings and conferences as available.
Recruit and train volunteers to support C&M functions.
Represent chapter professionally and ethically in all business functions/organizational activities
Manage distribution of chapter publicity and press releases, radio announcements, advertising and promotional materials.
Support Programs/Professional Development function and SIGS in advertising monthly programs and workshops.
Support Member Services function in preparing chapter brochure highlighting goals, objectives and membership benefits.
Manage solicitation of advertising for chapter website and newsletter.
Plan and implement periodic surveys of chapter membership.
Design annual budget for C&M function; audit income/expenses monthly to ensure chapter's sound financial status.
Research, develop and facilitate the sourcing of new ideas and concepts for marketing ASTD-Silicon Valley.
Recruit and train incoming V.P.-C&M.
Recruit newsletter editor and manage content and distribution of electronic chapter newsletter


Qualifications

Directly involved in the Training and Development field with broad knowledge of local resources; minimum 5 years experience desired.
National member of ASTD and a member in good standing of the Silicon Valley Chapter.
Time available to fully participate in chapter and board meetings.
Adept in verbal communication, diplomacy, personal interaction and problem-solving
Experience in public relations, marketing, advertising, promotions, and/or sales helpful.
Ability to build, motivate and lead a team of volunteers.
Ability to delegate tasks and monitor follow-through.


Realistic Estimate oF Time This Function Will Take Each Month:

Attending Board Meetings: 2 hours plus travel time
Attending C&M Committee meetings: 1-2 hours plus travel time
Attending monthly chapter meetings: 3 hours plus travel time
Communicating with newsletter editor, individuals responsible for website, administrative office and committee members about routine issues: 2-4 hours
