President - Elect


REPORTS TO: Chapter President

TERM: Three years: 1st as President-elect, 2nd as President, 3rd as Immediate Past President

PURPOSE: To assist President in performance of chapter management duties, automatically succeeding to President. To recruit Board members to lead the chapter in the succeeding year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Succeed to President upon expiration of President's term or upon resignation, incapacity, or death of President; assume duties of President when President is absent from Board meetings or chapter meetings/functions.
  2. Assist the President with chapter organization and management, clarifying Board/committee responsibilities and encouraging the best use of chapter resources.
  3. Support President in overseeing sound financial status of chapter by monitoring monthly budget reports.
  4. Work with the president to establish productive relationships with ASTD affiliates and chapter member companies..
  5. Monitor/report results to Board and membership of needs assessments and monthly satisfaction survey and member suggestions. Use results to support strategic planning and goal-setting for succeeding year.
  6. Lead the Chapter Awards committee in identifying candidates for local and national recognition, assuring proper award nomination documentation is submitted.
  7. Lead succession planning to include recruiting new Board members, managing the chapter's process, and chairing the nominating committee.
  8. Lead the chapter's vision, mission and direction planning process at annual transition meeting, and be prepared to communicate and gain chapter member commitment.
  9. Attend and participate in monthly Board meetings, chapter meetings, and national leadership conference. Participate in other chapter events, committee meetings, and regional conferences as available.
  10. Recruit and train incoming President-Elect.
  11. Represent chapter professionally and ethically in all business functions/organizational activities.
  12. Attend and participate in all monthly Board meetings and chapter programs. Participate in other chapter events, committee meetings and conferences as available.
  13. Represent chapter professionally and ethically in all business functions/organizational activities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Directly involved in the Training and Development field with broad knowledge of local resources; minimum 5 years experience desired.
  2. Demonstrated experience in budget design and accountability desired.
  3. Ability to build, create an environment for motivations, and lead a team of volunteers.
  4. Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate chapter activities.
  5. Demonstrated skills in effective leadership, diplomacy, personal interaction, problem-solving meeting management and communication.
  6. Demonstrated ability to manage projects.
  7. National member of ASTD and a member in good standing of the Silicon Valley chapter.
  8. Time available to fully participate in chapter and board meetings, and represent the chapter regionally and nationally

REALISTIC ESTIMATE OF TIME THIS FUNCTION WILL TAKE EACH MONTH:

  1. Attending Board Meetings: 2 hours plus travel time
  2. Assisting President, learning chapter operations, developing board for coming year: 10-15 hours
  3. Attending monthly chapter meetings: 3 hours plus travel time
  4. Communicating with administrative office and other board members about routine issues: 2-4 hours
